when to travel to turks and caicos

myseastoryi often get asked this question – what is the best time of the year to travel to turks and caicos – by family and friends looking forward to visit, and friendly readers looking for advice. opinions may vary, but this is mine.

– June to October –

it’s hurricane seasons, you might not want to risk it, but it’s a great time to come to provo, there is usually enough warning if a hurricane is coming and it tends to happen closer to september and october. the weather is amazing (ok, hot and humid), and the prices are more affordable, as it is low season.  september and october are very quiet months, and many restaurants chose to close for the season. lobster seasons starts on august 15th, this may vary year to year, and closes on march 31st. if you like lobster, then you might want to take this in consideration too.

– November until Christmas –

it’s a great time for us who live here, it gets more breezy and not as humid as during the summer. but, because of the time change, the sunset is very early, sometimes around 5.30pm. i personally like staying at the beach until late. if you are an early person, prices are still friendly (except for thanksgiving), and it is a more comfortable weather.

don’t miss the conch festival and the caribbean food and wine festival.

– Christmas and New Year –

busy, busy busy, but fun. the weather is great and you will never feel the island packed, but there is a nice atmosphere all around.

don’t miss the maskanoo.

– February to June –

the island is still busy, prices are overall not as high as christmas and new year’s, except for us bank holidays, restaurants and bars are buzzing, and the weather is great. the days start to get longer and it’s not as humid as in the summer. lobster season finishes mid march.

don’t miss the crab festival and the valentines day cup in middle caicos.

thank you, parrot cay, for yet another amazing and unforgettable weekend with the best friends!

parrot cay is definitely my favorite hotel in turks and caicos, but if you are staying somewhere else, and it’s not busy seasons, i recommend getting a day pass and at least spending the day on island – contact them through their website parrot cay by como.

guest post ~ luz

my sweet, sweet friend Luz (Luz means light in english, doesn’t she have the coolest name?) came to visit last month, and i couldn’t be happier to have her around for a whole week, to share my life in provo with her and have than enough time to catch up! we took her out to our favourite beaches and restaurants, and asked her to share her opinion on provo.

what do you think makes turks and caicos (providenciales) so special –

  • The nice temperature, day and night
  • The beautiful wild beaches and conch
  • The silence that I so much wished for
  • Everybody saying “Hi” everywhere, every time
  • A sand on the beach that doesn’t burn our feet
  • The gorgeous bougainvillea everywhere

what were your favourite things to do whilst on island –

would you recommend to a friend – Certainly!

thank you, Light, for guest posting on myseastory!

2013-05-13-turks-and-caicos-3 I am starting to really enjoy taking pics with my new wide and macro lens along with the new compact INON flash. I am still playing with the set ups as there are so many variations!

This past sunday, we went to Northwest point where I love to dive as the walls there by Amanyara Resort are just incredibly amazing to look at.

2013-05-13-turks-and-caicos-4 2013-05-13-turks-and-caicos-1Our first dive was at the Amphitheater and we took the right wall. I went down deep and turned on the HD video to show you the beautiful landscape.

Then there are the sea life including a very cool star fish stuck on a blueish/violet fan. Well, enjoy.

turks and caicos beaches // the bight

2013-04-21-turks-and-caicos-7yesterday james was eager to take a few pictures with his new dome lens (it allows taking pictures with the lens half under water and over water) so we made a quick stop at the bight.

2013-04-21-turks-and-caicos-22013-04-21-turks-and-caicos-8when we got there the beach was beautiful, with the sailing boats on the background.

2013-04-21-turks-and-caicos-6the sun was really hot, and bright, reflecting on the white sand, i could almost not see the screen on the my camera!

2013-04-21-turks-and-caicos-5

we were talking about how lucky we are in turks and caicos, that we get 1 spare hour and we can actually make a pit stop at the beach, go for a quick dive and relax for a while in between plans.

2013-04-21-turks-and-caicos-4although we have warm weather all year round, we actually start feeling more summery – definitely hotter, the sea water is warmer and some say more humid too.
