conch festival 2012

so last week, we met some friends at the conch festival – see last year’s post. this was the 9th year the festival took place, and it’s the one event on island that i make sure i don’t miss. for me, the conch festival is  very genuine, it’s what turks and caicos is about.

it was held last saturday from noon to five in blue hills, by the three queen’s restaurant. we paid a fee to sample all sorts of conch dishes from the participating restaurants competing in the categories of best conch salad, best conch chowder, best speciality conch and best show.

we conched out, so we had some jerk chicken and fried fish too! there was a mojito competition (somewhere won!!) and my favorite part was listening to the kids steel drum band – i find them amazing!

ps – follow them HERE for next year’s schedule of events

happy weekend

we took this picture last week in blue hills, i’ve always loved this part of the island. whenever we have visitors over, we always bring them here – you can see the real caribbean feel, like this colorful hut (these candy coloured houses and this coloured palm tree!).

i hope you get to celebrate mother’s day in style, this weekend. since mothers day in portugal was last weekend…we celebrated on skype! have a good one friends!

conch festival

last weekend he headed to the conch festival, since it is our first year in provo, we were excited to see what it was about!

we went straight to the conch tasting competition, sampling dishes prepared by the 25 local participating restaurants – our favourite? parallel 23 and bay bistro, loved the flavours, presentation and friendlyness!

did you know that conch is the main export product in turks and caicos?

in our way out we bought some coconuts from these friendly kids!

it truly is one of the events of the year in provo, not to be missed!
