hartwood / tulum

we spent our last days of vacation on the beach, in tulum – where we had one of the best meals in our trip.

i had heard a lot about Hartwood (here and here) and thought it was going to be just a fancy restaurant with new york prices. but arriving late, the hotel suggested us going as there weren’t many other places open and it was located just next to our hotel.

if you are going to tulum, this is definitely a must go to restaurant – we went twice! our favorites were the beetroot salad starter, the side of eggplant with honey, the grilled octopus, the yucatan lamb sausage and the steak. and the dessert, corn ice cream with sliced mango – i know it sounds weird, but so good!

the atmosphere is relaxed, the fruit cocktails are to die for (grapefruit mojito, seriously!?) and the menu changes daily, based on the availability of the ingredients – all the food is prepared on the grill or in the wood-burning oven.

the restaurant is owned by a new york couple, may henry and eric werne, who after coming to tulum for vacation, decided to leave their city life behind to open a restaurant – have you ever had this thought? they actually did it!

happy weekend from somewhere

hey guys! i hope you’re having a sunny weekend and perhaps celebrating the queen’s golden jubilee. we have a holiday monday and tuesday – the perks of belonging to the british commonwealth…

this picture is from my friend’s wedding last week. the rehearsal dinner was at somewhere – it’s funny because it was my first rehearsal dinner (we don’t really do them in portugal), but all we did was eat tacos and drink pina coladas all night!

craving these…

i am so craving these right now!

my all time fish tacos favourite on island are the ones from somewhere, but the ones i had at parrot cay are to die for. yes, i would go all the way to the next door island just for them! i tell you, they are so worth it…

pasteis de belem / lisboa

first thing you should do if you’re visiting lisbon, is emerging in real portuguese culture and head to this spot for your sweet fix!

pasteis de belem was established in 1837 and they sell about 20 000 pasteis de nata – portuguese custard tarts – a day!

this place is always packed, with locals and tourists, but the line is quick and so worth the wait.

you can find them in pastry shops all over the country, but these ones are my favourites – i crave them all the time! some like them with powdered sugar, i like them with cinnamon. and some like them with both.

happy kitchen / london

for the first time in london, i stayed in east, so it felt like visiting a new city, i loved exploring all the little spots and so many creative coffee shops like happy kitchen. it was just around the corner from where we were staying, so i stopped by for my daily caffeine fix, and bought lots of organic dry fruits to snack whilst shopping and sightseeing.
