sand dollars

there are three things that i absolutely love about turks and caicos (besides all these) – star fish, remember how they tickled in my hands when i held them? – turtles, james sees them all the time on his dive outings and i get crazy jealous – and sand dollars.

i have been looking for sand dollars for more than a year now and had only found them in souvenir shops. obviously,  i’ve been looking in the wrong places, because everyone seems to see them all the time…

but last weekend, james and i were going for a walk and he found three in a row!

they are funny creatures, so, so pretty and difficult to imagine how they function. they are related to starfish and sea urchins – i did find a video with a sand dollar moving across the sand, you must watch it  HERE.

infinity

since my mum and sister are on island, we are a bit more active than usual – last week we took them to grace bay club for drinks. (remember THIS picture on instagram?) their infinity bar is definitely the coolest bar on island, and one of my favorite spots too.

the lounge area is also pretty neat – those lanterns, at night, give an awesome effect (would love to have a few in my terrace!) and there’s a fireplace, in case you get the chills!

we went at sunset, had a couple of cocktails and snacked on some conch. we were so tired, it was the perfect early night out after a day in the sun.

his dive story

The other day, we were diving at French Cay and it has been a long time since I have been there as it is a long trip from South Dock.

It’s April and I was able to witness the various corals shooting out sperms and seeds creating a mist on the reef wall which made the viz poor.

I also had company on this dive.  Joana’s sis Ines from Lisbon was doing her OWD and she had a great time even when a shark came straight at her!

James

happy easter weekend

i hope you have a great weekend my friends!

we have an extra long one in provo – friday and monday off! we’re enjoying having family around and doing all touristic things we never end up doing without guests.

i made a list of all the beaches in provo and have taken the challenge of going to every single one of them during my mum and sister’s stay – we’ve been to six different ones (like this one, this one, and this one) but still have a few more to go!

chalk sound national park

my mum and sister are over for a visit (hence, my little blogging…) so i am showing them around and making sure they don’t miss out on anything on island. i made a list of every beach and spot they should see in provo and the chalk sound national park was one of the first ones we headed to when they arrived.

chalk sound is a shallow lagoon, almost 5km long, with hundreds of rocky islands – and the water is a chalky turquoise colour! there are no sandy beaches (or very little), but isn’t the colour of the water amazing?

we drove through chalk sound drive, saw the amazing houses on silly creek and stopped on the side roads to sneak in, see the views and take pictures.

note to self – i must go back, rent a kayak to explore the islands and end up with lunch at las brisas with the best view of the lagoon.
