world’s leading beach destination

turks and caicosno, the winner wasn’t bora bora, maldives, seychelles or cancun (not even algarve!!) – and yes you’ve guessed it!

turks and caicos was the winner in the category the world’s leading beach destination at the world travel awards final gala ceremony that took place earlier this month in dehli.

read more about it here and check out who were the winners in other categories here.

picture by my friend chanell, who is new on island and takes the most amazing pictures.

art and craft expo

arts-and-craft-expo tci

earlier this month we had the 3rd annual art and craft expo at the turtle cove marina – it was the first time i went so i didn’t really know what to expect.

i was so impressed with the variety of crafts that day – from purses (love these), painting, dolls, hats, jewelry and more. with limited access to materials here on island, locals and residents really showed how to get creative.arts-and-craft-expo-tci

these were my favourite, made by a haitian lady who lives in middle caicos. there are many hatians living on island, and they are so artististic. if you are visiting you should check out their local market near the small IGA, i bought a huge painting from there last year – it’s on the wall in our kitchen and i love it!

arts-and-crafts-expo-tcithe art and craft was organized by the Turks and Caicos Friends of the Arts Foundation – join them on facebook to know more about other events in turks and caicos.

EDIT – there will be a christmas craft fair this sunday at the IGA Gourmet – see details here

back on island

Miami | myseastoryhey friends, we just came back from a short weekend in miami. we got our fix of shopping, people watching and a few nice food spots too, and only an hour away from provo. will be sharing pics later on this week.

in the mean time, we are getting ready for christmas. spending christmas away from home and without our family will be, let’s say, a whole new experience. but the fact that we don’t have to face the cold, the traffic and all the shopping stress, i confess, is kind of nice.

how about you, is it important to spend the holiday season with your family, or are you used to being away?

hope you all have a fabulous week before christmas, hopefully with a little bit of sun too!

made in provo

jennifer maude designjust a few weeks ago i met jen from jennifer maude design. jen is gorgeous, super friendly,  and so, so talented. when i first arrived to provo, i remember seeing her art up at the grace bay club and at maxime’s (these ones and this one) and was totally impressed!

jen has been painting all her life, starting her studies as an apprentice in new zealand when she was only 12. she has been in provo, working as an artist since 2006.

“I try and bring my ethos of sustainability into everything I create; this is evident in my purses made from upcycled fabrics, my handbound books, and my work with driftwood” she says.

recently i have been loving jen’s purses, she was selling a few at the art and craft expo in turtle cove, together with handmade christmas cards and tags, beach mobiles and hand bound books.

how great are all these? you can contact her and see more of her work here.
