a quick hello from lisbon

a-quick-hello-from-lisbonif you follow me on instagram, you know i’m in lisbon right now. it’s our parents’ 40th wedding anniversary so we secretly flew over and, at 7am, we rang the bell at their house ! needless to say, they were overly surprised, and julia and i super excited to be here and spend this date with them. we’ll be taking it easy here, with lot’s of christmas get togethers, family time and catching up with old friends.

november-instagramin november we finally moved to our new home, settling down for good and getting a feeling of the city as residents. we’re no longer tourists here, right? let me tell you, there is a lot going on in new orleans, and it’s sometimes hard to chose with a constant feeling of missing out. also, our boxes should be here this week….it’ll be nice to have more clothes to wear other than what we brought in our luggage – and all the other things that’ll make us feel more at home.

about moving with a toddler

julia-3852moving isn’t easy, let alone moving from an island to a city, with a 20 month old toddler. julia is a baby traveller, we take her everywhere, she’s been on more than 40 flights and stayed at numerous hotels, that’s how we roll. everyone told me that if she was used to traveling, she would adapt easier than us. but reality wasn’t exactly like that, we knew what to expect (packing, new places, new people and new ways of getting our way round), but she, she couldn’t exactly tell what was going on.

the first few weeks were really hard, we are definitely not homebodies, but some days i would barely leave the house with the fear of a huge tantrum in the middle of nowhere. we had two episodes (once because she wanted to go to a swing on someone else’s front porch and another time at whole foods) they were embarrassing, and these were the hardest i’ve ever had to deal with julia. i love her to pieces and it broke my heart seeing her so confused and unhappy.

i learned a few things along the way which i hope can help if you’re planning to move with a toddler – Continue reading

october-instagram-by-myseastory

october was the month of change, and restart. a move, a trip to new york, house and car hunting and finding our own routines. oh, and halloween in the city. it’s been fun but i can’t wait to settle down for good, have our own home. new orleans has been good to us so far, and i’m so grateful for that.

i apologize for missing in action, i love my blog, but sometimes i need to disconnect, to find my way. hoping to be back to blogging more consistently pretty soon. thanks for the love ♡

september-instagram

september is typically the quietest month on island, it’s the peak of tropical storms and hurricane season, and most restaurants are closed for vacation and refurbishment. ours was quite the opposite, with all the packing and organizing for our move. it was also a very emotional month, saying “see you soon” (would hate to say good bye!), spending as much time as we could with our friends and trying to make the most out of (barefoot) island life – we still managed to fit in one more trip to parrot cay and a long overdue weekend in south caicos. now, we’re so ready for what october has to offer!
