wishlist # 1

i have recently realized how much more excited i get when i find a clutch i like than an actual handbag. maybe it’s because of island life, it’s just easy to have what i need in a handy clutch or pouch, than having to carry a handbag every where i go. plus, they are perfect for our all year round summer evenings. these are a few of my favourites right now – j

1. clare vivier striped trinity clutch from anthropologie – 2. peach and platinum large clutch from shawn burke – 3. large flat zip pouch in vermillion tie dye from tracey tanner – 4. fuschia color block pouch from celine – 5. gold dotted clutch from poketo – 6. invitation clutch in colorblock (on sale!!) from j.crew.

it’s election day in turks and caicos

happy friday friends! it’s my favorite time of the year here on island, not the typical fall – but not as hot, there is a nice breeze and it’s less humid than the rest of the year. james took this picture of my friends who came to visit last week – guest post coming this way soon!

it’s quite a big day today, it’s the first time there are elections since the british suspended the government in 2009 and appointed a governor to rule the islands. please send your positive vibes this way for a better future for turks and caicos islands!

by the way, did you know that it is forbidden to sell alcohol during voting time? see the picture i posted on facebook. apparently it’s common in other countries. i told my brother, who lives in brazil, and it’s the same thing there.

ps – so happy that somewhere finally reopened for lunch, and the french bakery reopened this week too!

quinta da romaneira / douro valley

i would love to share a few pictures of a magical place we stayed in whilst in portugal. we were here just for one night, it was right after our wedding weekend, so it felt perfect to wind down and have some rest and relax before heading to italy for our honeymoon (see how happy james looked!).

we arrived late at night and in the morning had breakfast with an amazing view – what a surprise!

quinta da romaneira is one of the oldest wineries in the douro valley, a unesco world heritage site in the north of portugal, and  the oldest demarcated wine region in the world.

it specializes in port and table wines – the hotel, encompassing two guest houses overlooking the douro river, is owned by the winery and  managed by hotel des reves.

the hotels doesn’t have a restaurant or an a la carte menu – we simply say what meal we want and where we chose to have it – and will be surprised by the chef’d choice at our favorite location.

since we just had one day, and were driving back to lisbon after lunch, we chose to take  tour of the douro valley – and get to see all the douro wineries from our boat, i highly recommend it! we totally missed out on the wine tasting and tour of the winery…

the rooms throughout the guest houses – the herbs room, the library – all had different scents matching the ambiance.

the food was delicious (and the wine!!), the service very friendly and attentive, the views were stunning, but the interior design was what really impressed me. i find most hotels have an hotel-look to them, not always cozy and personalized. here, on the contrary, i felt like i was at some cool friend’s house – and could spend days relaxing and reading in these living rooms with a view to the vineyards!

let me introduce you to my favorite instagrammer in turks and caicos – yigit arol.

i don’t actually remember how i stumbled upon his pictures, but they are stunning, i really love the way he pictures our beautiful islands. every time he posts one, it just gives me a huge smile and reminds me of how lucky i am to live here.

you can follow yigit arol’s instagram here or check out his gallery here!

are there any other instagrammers on islands you recommend? would love to know!

turks and caicos beaches // leeward beach

we’ve had friends over during this week, and i feel kinda guilty because the weather is not as it should be. since sandy, the sea, beaches and sun have not been in their “usual behavior”…so we’ve been trying extra hard to find the best beach spots for a dream weekend on island.

on a windy day we made a pitch stop in almost every beach on island until we chose the best one – we realized the most easter part of emerald point was less windy and the sea was calmer.

we spent the afternoon sunbathing, collecting shells and watching the kite surfers!

ps – tomorrow we are headed to the first island street food fair – part of the caribbean food & wine festival, that started yesterday.
