free dive

have you ever heard of free dive?

it’s a sport in which you dive on a single breath, without the assistance of tanks – amazing right!?

tanya streeter holds several free diving records – in 2002, she broke the men’s no limit world diving record by diving to a depth of 525 feet (160 m) here in turks and caicos islands – for more info on free diving in turks and caicos, go here.

craving the dutch

and their delicious cornbread – they serve it in lieu of a bread basket.

i went to the dutch for lunch whilst in new york last month, we had the kuroyaki fish and the sloppy duck sandwiches for lunch – a m a z i n g – and will have the soft-shell crab sandwich next time for sure!

i am definitely going back to this “american cooking with new york soul” restaurant.

saving starfish

we were astonished when we saw a couple at the beach last weekend grabbing a starfish from the sea and placing it in their backpack…

it might be very tempting for some to take such a beautiful creature as a souvenir back home – but what if everyone decides to do the same?

when we see them grabbing another one, once again we ask if the starfish was dead or alive – we have been living here for a while and have never found a dead starfish on the sea.

we nicely explained that there is a lot of work done by decr in the island to protect marine life, and how the increase of tourists is great for the economy but dangerous if they don’t respect marine life…they then placed both starfish back under water.
