howdy from mexico

hello friends! i just popped in to say a quick hello from mexico.

we rented a car and have been on a mini road trip around yucatan, and now relaxing on the beach in tulum for a couple of days before heading back to provo. it’s my first time in mexico, so i’m all excited about the mayan ruins, the food (i could eat tacos every day!), the markets, the cute churches in every little village and the friendly people, i am loving this culture and couldn’t be happier.

hope you guys are having an awesome weekend too!

off we go

hey friends, we’re off for a loooong week vacation. we’re staying in miami for one night and tomorrow we’re heading to havana for a few days before traveling to tulum. this year we thought we should explore countries nearby, although we did have a hard time finding out how to get to cuba from here – but we’re finally making it!

i have a few posts lined up for next week, and follow me on instragam and facebook  for daily updates on my cuba and mexico trip!

check out this gorgeous pictures of cuba by jose villa, aren’t they breathtaking? i can’t wait to get there!

parrot cay

parrot cay was the first thing that came to my mind the very first time i heard about turks and caicos – actually, it was everything i knew about turks and caicos. you might remember me mentioning before, HERE and HERE, but last weekend i finally got the chance to see it for myself.

since my mum and sister were visiting we made a little trip off island and stayed there for a couple of days. from the very first moment, when we were greeted at the pier, whilst waiting for the boat to take us, throughout the whole stay, we felt really far away and soooo pampered!

we relaxed at the beach, went for long walks, took pictures of the amazing sand banks with the low tide, found sand dollars for the first time, and cycled around exploring the beautiful island.

we stayed next to an old pirate house, where supposedly the pirates used to live. can you believe the island was initially called pirate cay, but was changed to parrot cay so as not to frighten visitors? cute pirate house, hum?

we had cocktails by the pool and since james was craving asian, we had dinner at lotus, their asian restaurant – my favorite was a delicious starter they had with tofu and coconut milk with fried plantain!

parrot cay is as breathtaking as i had imagined it and i can’t wait to go back for another weekend!

flower power

my jaws drop every single time i go to republica das flores for flowers, they have the most beautiful flower arrangements and do it perfect every time. plus, they have a gazillion other temptations to shop – candles, jewellery, scarves and even bikinis.

if i get married one day i know for sure who’s doing the flower decorations!

artsy london

last weekend i was in london with my family, we went shopping to liberty and fortnum and mason, spent a morning in borough market and we did some artsy stuff too.

when the weekend was over my mum and i were talking about how much we enjoy seeing a good exhibition. it really fulfils me, learning more about a painter, his history, why he works the way he does, his style and his colour combinations. i must’ve gotten this from her!

i thought i’d share with you the three amazing exhibitions we went to.

yayoy kusama at the tate modern – if you like polka dots, you will adore this japanese contemporary painter, sculptor and novelist. one of the installations i saw was a dark room representing a living room filled with fluorescent polka dots!

alighiero boetti at the tate modern – this was the first solo exhibition of the italian artist. i was amazed by the embroidered maps in which each country is represented with it’s flag, and changed through time.

david hockney at the royal academy of arts – a bristish artist who lived in california, i specially liked his colour combinations. i was amazed by his collection of ipad drawings! see a short video of him at work on his ipad.
