our weekend in santo domingo

we’ve had the dominican republic on our bucket list since we moved here, more than four years ago – there are so many dominicans living on island, and hear so much about it, we were excited to finally visit.

we went for a very short weekend, didn’t rent a car or went shopping, we stayed at the historical centre, and wanted to walk the neighborhood and absorb as much culture and history as we could. the city’s zona colonial, historical centre, was declared as a world heritage site by unesco. our winter vacation in portugal

earlier this month, i travelled to lisbon with julia, for 3 weeks, to spend some time with our family for new year’s eve, since we had to spend christmas in turks and caicos. last year i was in lisbon for a couple of months in the new year, it wasn’t easy, i was about to give birth, i felt huge and uncomfortable and the weather was terrible. add a little of baby blues to that, and let’s say it wasn’t my best vacation.

mid week break in south beach

myseastory in miami 1my mum was over visiting for a couple of weeks, and since she had to overnight in miami on the way to turks and caicos, julia and i flew over for a mid week break of a little bit of shopping, people watching and lots of city walking.

every time james and i go to miami, we rent a car and end up driving back and forth between target, whole foods, aventura mall and also the design district for out favorite restaurants. this time, we decided to stay in south beach, and although the south beach vibe is not exactly our thing, we were determined to enjoy it fully. family weekend in new york

myseastory-in-new-york-24in september, james and i took julia to new york for the first time. it’s becoming a tradition now, going for a long weekend during this time of the year, since it’s typically quiet, and we were in a much needed break off island.

we were also visiting james’ brothers who hadn’t met julia yet, and his mum who was visiting from california. we tried to pack a little bit of everything in 3 days and find the right balance –  family time + enjoying the city with julia. Continue reading

stockholm

myseastory-in-stockholm-29after copenhagen, we spent another 4 days in stockholm before going back to lisbon – we had such a wonderful experience. by this time, julia was already on our “vacation schedule” – all day out sightseeing, morning nap in the stroller and afternoon nap at the hotel before heading out for early dinner – she was such a trooper!
