food adventures in peru

pervian food was a big plus in our trip, they have the freshest fish, fruits and vegetables. did you know that potatoes originated in peru and they have 3000 different types? they also have more than 80 different types of quinoa!

…left to right, top to botton: ceviche from cevicheria don pedrito at the mistura food fair in lima, delicious alpaca carpaccio from el huacatay restaurant in urubamba, beef heart skewers from anticuchos de la tia grima in lima, prickly pear and custard apple juice, fresh in every corner, market and restaurant throughtout peru

this time i made an effort to be (a little!) more adventurous in regards to food and i actually tried beef heart…guinea pig…and alpaca!!

doughnut plant / new york

i have to share this sweet spot i stumbled upon whilst in ny…

these gourmet donuts from doughnut plant are the best i’ve ever had – i am still dreaming about the valrhona chocolate one!

another sweet spot was eileen chesecakes, delicious mini cheesecakes, how cute is that – my favourite? the pecan! (sorry…no pic, great excuse to go back!)

torrisi / new york

last night after blogshop, james and i went to torrisi, for our good bye dinner in new york. i had read about it here and added it to my to do list in ny. we went early and were lucky to get a table, as they don’t accept reservations. during the day its a deli sandwich spot, and at night they have a set menu that changes every day. it’s my kind of place, brick walls decorated with italian products, a cosy atmosphere, fancy but informal.

the best part? dinner itself – a home made warm mozzarela, followed by three other starters to share, my favourite were the sea scallops with fermented rabe. For pasta we had gnocchi with katz pastrami with a great mustardy flavour, and as a main dish a very light striped bass with pickled tomatoes. From the selection of pastries we had for desert…I am still thinking of the chocolate mint patties…yumm!

green bean / providenciales

last weekend we had a funny episode – funny if you’re in a good mood when it happens! we were about to use our oven at home…and completely forgot to check inside before turning it on – we had to quickly turn it off before burning and melting the instructions inside a plastic cover left inside!

we decided to forget the oven incident and try prime for dinner.

prime is green bean during the day, and it turns into prime at night. with candles and seating area outside, it’s really nice and easy going. the perfect dinner spot close to home.

james had the best steak in the island, it comes with a fresh and deliciously well dressed salad. i had sliders but was aiming for the empanada with pico de gallo – sadly they had ran out of, so I’ll have to go back to try these.
